Parallel Migrations: Perilous Journey II
Parallel Migrations: Perilous Journey references the very real and dangerous environs traversed by migrants, immigrants and refugees. Each of the sculptures is a representation of the ad hoc memorials placed in the deserts of Arizona to mark where the remains were found of a person who died while trying to enter the United States. Years later bodies of immigrants were found on the beaches of New York and New Jersey. The men were forced overboard by smugglers when coast guard boats approached. Today similar tragedies on an even larger scale are occurring with mind numbing regularity on the shores of the Mediterrean Sea.
